Community guidelines
How we keep ibuildinpublic useful, honest, and safe for builders who ship in public.
Last updated September 2026
Spirit of the platform
ibuildinpublic is a home for builders who share real work in public: builder pages, product pages, experiences, help requests, and topic-based group chats.
The community works best when people are specific, honest, and respectful. Show what you are building, what you learned, and how you want to collaborate.
What you publish
Published builder pages, product pages, experiences, and help requests are public. Anyone with the link can read them.
Keep titles, pitches, bios, and write-ups accurate. Do not present mockups, ideas, or plans as shipped products unless you say so clearly.
Experiences should reflect your own work or lessons. Help requests should be genuine asks with enough context for others to help.
You choose what to publish, but the platform is designed for public-by-default building in public.
Do
Share work you are actually building, shipping, or have shipped.
Write experiences that are useful to other builders: what you tried, what worked, what failed, or what you learned.
Post help requests in the right category and include enough detail for someone to understand the ask.
Use involvement options honestly so visitors know how you want to collaborate.
Leave comments and likes that add value. Thoughtful engagement helps everyone.
Follow builders and products you genuinely want to stay close to.
Respond to contact requests in good faith when you accept them.
Don't
Harass, threaten, or discriminate against others.
Post spam, scams, malware links, or misleading promotions.
Impersonate others or misrepresent your products, traction, or credentials.
Upload content you do not have rights to share.
Use contact requests or involvement options for unsolicited sales pitches or mass outreach.
Game Builder XP with fake engagement, follow/unfollow loops, or automated activity.
Scrape, spam, or abuse platform systems.
Involvement and contact requests
Involvement options on builder and product pages describe how you want to collaborate, such as beta testers, design help, or co-founder match.
Contact requests should be tied to a specific involvement option and sent in good faith. Keep first messages short, relevant, and respectful.
Page owners can accept or ignore contact requests. Accepted contacts move into Inbox for conversation.
Do not use contact requests to bypass someone’s boundaries or flood them with unrelated messages.
Group chats
Group chats are topic rooms for builders to discuss shipping, feedback, and collaboration. Access depends on your plan; see Pricing for details.
Keep messages on topic for the room you are in. No harassment, spam, scams, or unsolicited mass outreach.
Do not share private information you do not have permission to post. What you write in group chats may be visible to other participants in that room.
We may remove messages or restrict chat access for violations, the same as other community content.
Comments, follows, and Builder XP
Signed-in builders can like and comment on published experiences and help requests.
Comments should stay on topic and constructive. Personal attacks, slurs, and baiting are not allowed.
Builder XP rewards genuine activity such as publishing, visiting pages, following, sending contact requests, and engaging on content.
Do not manipulate XP with low-effort spam, coordinated fake engagement, or repeated follow/unfollow behavior.
Moderation
We may remove content, hide posts from Feed, restrict features, or suspend accounts that break these guidelines.
Severe or repeated violations may result in permanent removal from the platform.
We may update these guidelines as the product evolves. Continued use of ibuildinpublic means you follow the current version on this page.
Reporting
